A White Wedding

When I say Ross’s favour colour is White.. you wouldn’t understand it until you saw their home. A limited edition white playstation, a white flat screen LCD TV and white TV stand adorns their lounge. The rest of the house is much the same. So it came as no suprise when Leigh told me their wasn’t really a colour for their wedding. She pulled off ‘white’ brilliantly!

Engaged since December 08, we waited patiently for January, 8th 2010 to arrive for her intimate wedding of only 50 guests at Cape Hutton wine farm. Be warned for those of you that fall in love with this personal venue, that its actually the home of the best man’s parents and not generally out for rent for weddings.

Leigh and Ross’s day wasn’t without hiccup in the buildup. Planning her day from London, she booked Lourensford estate’s restaurant as the venue. However, on reconfirming the venue 3 months prior to the day, they discovered the restaurant had changed hands and been renovated into a Deli! Try as they might, Lourensford could not offer Leigh and Ross an alternative that fit the bill of casual dining and dancing beneath the stars. Leigh, ever relaxed, managed to solve the problem and have what she describes as her dream venue.

The exquisite part of this day, is that everything was done by Leigh and her mom. And Ross made the potent cocktails! Their’s was a DIY wedding but its beauty and special touches rivals those of big wedding coordinators!

Using chalkboards, Leigh and Ross directed the guests to halved wine barrels filled with individually tagged bottled cocktails. The table was a long banqueting table – the rowdy friends down one end and closest to the dance floor. Grouped glass vases of different sizes held white flowers of different varieties at intervals along the table. Tiffany chairs with white cushions added elegance (chairs are everything to me!) and food was served buffet style to the table with Mezze platters to start and a fish barbque for mains. Desert was a pyramid of (white ofcourse!) truffles.
