Rickety Bridge Winery
Rickety Bridge is everything you’d want for a small wine farm wedding. I say small, because although they say you can fit 85, I wouldn’t really want to push the seating in Rickety Bridge past 65.. for maximum comfort. As a bride, you want to be able to get around to all your guests. And, if like me, you going to book your venue before you get your dress, and therefore need to plan for the eventuality that you may have a big dress. And if you do, you need to have space to walk between the chairs.
Ah, the chairs! I’m a real fan of not having to use plastic chairs with covers, and these wooden chairs are lovely on their own, or with a cover.
The tables are rectangle and bulky, and along with the comfortable but somewhat large (if you’re comparing to plastic ones) chairs, space does start to be a deciding factor if your numbers look like they’ll be creeping past the 80 mark.
A mirror at the end of the hall creates space, and the high rafter ceiling is unique. The drive into the winery is spectacular, and the view from the predrink area ticks all the boxes.
You can say your vows on the lawn in front of the homestead, and if the weather turns on you, they can convert and close off what is the dance floor and create a mini chapel.
I have no doubt the food and the wine at Rickety Bridge, as with most places in Francshhoek, will not disappoint.

We were married at Rickety Bridge in Feb 2010 and had the reception in a bedouin tent on the lawn (in front of the Manor house) overlooking the vineyards. Although the ‘venue hall’ was nice enough, we thought this would work far better just for our wedding ceremony.
The staff were amazing and the day exceptional – I would highly reccommend. Also the fact that our guests could stay on the neighbouring farm (associated with Rickety Bridge) was an absolute bonus.
