How romantic was your proposal?
I’m a bit biased on this one, naturally. I believe my (now) husband proposed in the most romantic way possible. It was of course everything I had never dreamed of (I hadn’t ever given the proposal much thought).
Sunset, Mediterranean Ocean, on a cliff top surrounded by vineyards. Except, I have no proof of this fabulous romantic proposal. No hidden camera. No video on demand.
So, what appears to be the latest trend in proposals nowadays, is some thought going into making sure that all the effort our boys put into making the proposal romantic, fun and special, is captured on video or in photographs.
I first saw this put into action, when Iaan proposed to Christine Meintjies in Munich earlier this year – he sneakily arranged for photographers to capture the whole thing!
Watch the video of the Surprise Engagement Shooting from Caringo PhotografiX.
Then, a friend of mine was convinced sky-diving on a beautiful spring day in Cape Town was just a brave idea of her now-fiance, who proposed as she landed from her 11,000ft jump. (The video was included in the adrenaline rush proposal… and while I’ve seen it, I don’t have a copy to publish!)
And finally, I’ve just been sent this video of Frank and Kasey getting engaged in Central Park, New York. Some techie friends, musicians (playing Kasey’s favourite song), a bunch of iPhones running custom apps all made this video possible.
So now the big question… how romantic was your proposal, and do you have a video or some photos of it to share?
My proposal involved an aged piece of paper, burnt edges and all, with the ring stuck on it, put into a bottle and buried on the beach. After a little hinting and guiding, my fiance, now wife, “happened” to find it. And that was 12 years ago… Still going strong.
That’s pretty romantic!! Do you still have the aged piece of paper? (thank goodness your, or any other dog, didn’t dig up the letter in a bottle!)
I believe we do. (Thank goodness for my wife’s sense of nostalgia.) And I buried it will she was snoozing nearby so it wouldn’t get ‘misplaced’.
We were on the coast of Bali, in a small fishing village called Amed, and my fiance arranged a fishing boat to take us out on a sunset cruise (no small feat, considering the fisherman spoke no English!) He also arranged our favourite freshly squeezed mango juice, candles to light while we floated out on the bay, and a volcano silhouetted against the setting sun… Pretty incredible! I have a few photos that I took, just us two, which I think is the best way – I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else there. It was THE best evening of my life (but we haven’t had our wedding yet!)
Bridget that sounds amazing! Looking forward to hearing about your wedding
